God is still good.

Hello Blogspot Fam,

It’s been a while. Both mine and Lynn’s lives have been nothing shy of stressful lately. Both of us are juniors in high school, and it seems to be the most time consuming year yet. I personally am balancing school, a job, and somewhat of a social life all at the same time and it has gotten a little crazy. I put the blog on the backburner. In these recent months, I have learned a lot about myself and the ways God works. In mid September some things happened and my world felt like it was falling apart. I was in over my head and didn’t know how to deal with it. I had a friend straight up tell me that I needed to turn to God and no one else. And so I did. That friend and I have been holding each other accountable since then and it’s been so good for me! I feel like I am finally right with God. I spent about a month studying Job and boy oh boy that was a kick in the face for me. Job was SO BOLD! I love the Bible and how transparent God is through it and I love living by it. I find that I am just a genuinely happier person. If I hadn’t had God through these past couple months I honestly don’t know where I would be right now.

Now for the hard part. In March of 2013, mine and Lynn’s pastor was diagnosed with an extremely rare form of melanoma. Lynn and I go to a rather large church, and this was a huge deal. Obviously. All of the treatments and things he took were all clinical trials and there was no guarantee that they would work. On November 18th, Pastor David passed away. This has been such a rough and heartbreaking week. But I have learned a ton this week. Last night David’s son, Josh, spoke at church (the day after his dad died…how bold right?!!) and kept reminding us of Romans 8:28 and Romans 6:23. God makes things work together for good for the people who love him, and I am confident that David and his family love the Lord and will soon see the good in this. I have constantly been reminded of Luke 23:43 where Jesus says this: “’Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise.’” I have no doubt in my mind that David is with the Lord. Through this, I have learned that the Lord is still good, and that we should turn to him and no one else. Because after all, he has all the answers, right?! Who are we to question God?

I am looking forward to being able to get back into the swing of things on the blog! Hope you’re all having a lovely fall season so far J

Love always,

Kaitlyn

untitled. literally.

I honestly have no words for myself. I keep promising to post more and fail you guys time and time again. That whole thought out schedule I made obviously didn't work out, and considering I start school in two weeks, I don't see the point in trying to start keeping up with that schedule now. So, I have made a plan that you will see below that I intend to stick to, but there's no promises because dang it's hard to keep up with a schedule and constantly come up with new blog post ideas all the time.

Week of 7/20: Get up a blog post by Wednesday and post another before leaving for the beach on Saturday.

Week of 7/27: I will be at the beach so no posts. There may be a post from Lynn though!

Week of 8/3: I start school this week, but I should be able to get something up.

That's the schedule for the next three weeks! :) Thanks for being understanding, love you guys!

xoxo,
Kaitlyn

Hooked On Books // New Series

Hi!
So since it is summer, I have been doing nothing with my time - at all. Just sitting around and watching netflix which isn't a very good way to spend my time. Lynn came over yesterday, and we watched Pride and Prejudice which, coincidentally, is one of our favorite movies. The story is just too good. I tried reading the book a while back but I wasn't educated enough to understand what it was saying. So I am going to try and read it again. And I am starting this series. Each month I will have a new book to read and each week I will post about the chapters I read, my thoughts on what happened in those chapters, and what I think will happen going forward. Seeing as I have seen the movie for Pride and Prejudice, the movie never lives up to the book, so I could be completely wrong about everything! I think this will be a very fun and different series, and I hope you will join me.

This week I will be reading chapters 1-10. It's a lot but I think I can do it! Hope you're all having a fantastic summer!

Purple & Plaid // ootd

I was going to make this an outfit post, but I just realized that I have no idea where any of these clothes came from.  They're probably hand-me-downs and thrift finds, because that's what all my clothes seem to be nowadays.  I do, however, remember that my sandals came from Cato!  But I got them a long time ago so it's not like you could buy them now if you wanted to... oh well.

Sibling Tag with Matthew!

I finally got my younger brother Matthew to film a video with me, so we filmed the sibling tag! I do have an older brother as well, but he's not one for videos. I would also like to apologize for the poor video quality, I film with my HD camera and good lighting now! ENJOY! You can watch it here:

Photography Class

I started taking a photography class last week, so I just wanted to share with you some of the things i've learned.  First off, Aperture:

The higher the f/stop, the less it will blur the background.  The lower the f/stop, the more it will blur.  When you compare the backgrounds of the two photos above, you can see that the left photo (f/11) is less blurry than the right (f/5.6).  Personally, I prefer a low f/stop.

Here is an example of something to stay away from.  Notice how the tops of these cups are just touching that line going across the back.  That's called a point of tension and it's not very pleasing to the eye.  For more (and better) examples, click here.

I'll probably do a couple more of these posts in the future.  I hope this new month has been good to you!

I meant to post this on valentines day, but, since that didn't happen, i figured i would just post it now.  I made these really cute valentines (because you're never too old to give out valentines) and i wanted to share them with you all.  I found the idea here, but i wanted to design my own.  so here are my valentines especially for you:
click here to print.  then, all you have to do is cut them out and tape on any candy of your choosing.  I guess you can just pin this for next year...

dare: dream it, then do it.

This year, i've made it my goal to turn my dreams into reality.  I plan to make God my number one priority everyday.  I plan to go to Haiti again and this time I want to teach dance to the kids in the orphanage.  I plan to get my drivers license.  I plan to go somewhere new during the summer (possibly North Carolina or Washington!) and get out of my usual routine.  I plan to make new friends.  I plan to make a difference.
& unless God tells me otherwise, that is exactly what I shall do.
what are your plans for 2014?

Happy 2014!

Just stopping by to wish you all a happy New Year!  Ephesians 4:29 has recently become my favorite verse, so i just wanted to share it with you all.  Make sure the words you speak are encouraging and good for building up.  I hope these first four days of 2014 have been good to you!

much love,
Lynn
