I started taking a photography class last week, so I just wanted to share with you some of the things i've learned. First off, Aperture:
The higher the f/stop, the less it will blur the background. The lower the f/stop, the more it will blur. When you compare the backgrounds of the two photos above, you can see that the left photo (f/11) is less blurry than the right (f/5.6). Personally, I prefer a low f/stop.
Here is an example of something to stay away from. Notice how the tops of these cups are just touching that line going across the back. That's called a point of tension and it's not very pleasing to the eye. For more (and better) examples, click here.
